Wynd Creek Three-Peats In London
Katelyn Graham's Wynd Creek ($5.30) notched her third consecutive win on Wednesday night (March 17) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, taking the card's $10,000 trotting feature in decisive fashion.
The four-year-old Explosive Matter mare bided her time in midfield while Rose Run Unclebuck (Travis Henry) and Victoriahasasecret (Tyler Borth) disputed a :29.2 first quarter, and then sustained a first-over attack through the middle half to seize control with just over a quarter mile remaining. Wynd Creek extended her lead off the home turn, defeating the mildly rallying Mr Arch (Alfie Carroll) by 3-1/4 lengths in 2:00.4. Rose Run Unclebuck faded to third.
Wynd Creek, now a nine-time winner, has won in eight of her 11 starts to date in Graham's care.
In the sub-featured $9,400 conditioned trot, Ann Jackson ($12.80) rode the pocket to a minor upset, collaring Dustylane Thunder in the final stride of a 2:00.2 mile. Ryan Holliday drove the daughter of Holiday Road for trainer David Holliday and Listowel Livestock Ltd.
Leafs And Wings ($2.60) appealed to Toronto and Detroit fans alike in the $6,000 Senior Pace, which was restricted to 11-year-olds and upward. The 14-year-old Rambaran entire posted a 1:58.3 win — the 56th of his career — while in line to Daryl Thiessen. Michael Rogers trains the Gregory Rogers homebred.
