Final Florida Awards Presented

Thanks to Thomas H. Hicks, treasurer and national director of the Florida Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), the final round of trophies were hand delivered to the chapter's annual honourees.

Due to COVID-19, the annual Florida Harness Racing Hall of Fame dinner was cancelled last year and could not be held this year. As such, the chapter members decided to go to the racetrack, training centres and breeding farms to deliver the awards in person.

This past week, Thomas H. Hicks, along with his wife, photographer Kathleen Hicks, first travelled to Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village to present Frank Antonacci with his Hall of Fame induction trophy.

Then it was off to Pompano Park, where the Hickses presented longtime horse owner, breeder and amateur driver Laurie Poulin with her Hall of Fame induction trophy.

The final stop of the week was again at Pompano, where Tom Hicks presented Kim Sears with the William Popfinger Award for her excellence in training young pacers.

The members of the Florida Chapter of USHWA appreciate the above and beyond effort by Thomas H. Hicks travelling to deliver the awards in person.
