Mares Dazzle In Mohawk Features
A set of $20,000 conditioned events were the co-features on Friday’s 10-race card at Woodbine Mohawk Park, with Born A Dragon and Teatimepreacher GB winning their respective assignments in those affairs.
Born A Dragon used her rallying skills to win for driver Travis Cullen in a sharp clocking of 1:52.2.
The Jodie Cullen trainee got away fourth while Major League N rolled the field through fractions of :26.4, :55.3 and 1:23.2. Born A Dragon shook loose in the lane and uncorked a :28.2 closing quarter to win by a half-length margin over Sly Eleanor N. Taking home the show dough was the odds-on favourite, Bestseller Hanover.
Sent off at odds of 9-2, the six-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon-Barossa won for the 17th time in her career while pushing her lifetime earnings to $165,873. She is owned by Travis Cullen and Paul Sanders.
Teatimepreacher GB took the other division in a time of 1:53.3 for driver Bob McClure who took an aggressive approach in winning with the Colin Johnson trainee.
Teatimepreacher GB powered to the quarter pole in :27.2 before releasing Team Kiwi N to the lead for a brief moment. McClure was quick to retake command with his charge, and together they led the group through middle splits of :56 and 1:25.1 before using a :28.2 final frame to win by a length over Team Kiwi N in 1:53.3. Nectar was a hard-closing third.
It was the 13th career win – and the first on North American soil - for the seven-year-old daughter of The Preacher Pan-Teatime Hall. The career winner of $30,426 is owned by Raymond Huschka of Penrith Cumbria of Great Britain.
