Hot Start For Tourigny; Roy Feted
It’s been a hot start to the 2021 season for conditioner Jean Tourigny, who watched HP Starlette bump the stable’s win total to four from just seven starts thanks to her Thursday evening tally at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Tourigny watched the four-year-old daughter of Muscle Mass-Iwannabatrotstar get away fifth in her $17,000 conditioned assignment for driver Louis-Philippe Roy, who held his position throughout the opening half of the contest. He then moved her first-over on the way to the three-quarter pole, and from there she used a :28.1 closing panel to win by a length over RJs Invictus in 1:57.3.
Tourigny now boasts a 4-1-0 record from the seven starters he’s sent out the season. A long-time fixture in Quebec racing circles, Tourigny made the move to Ontario last season and compiled a 21-21-13 record from 146 starts. It translated into $356,973 in earnings and a UTR of .253.
Driver Roy was presented a memento of a money milestone he surpassed earlier in the week. The Quebec native surpassed $25 million in lifetime earnings Monday evening at the Campbellville oval.
