NYRA Salaries To Be Exposed?

According to a report, the New York Racing Association is preparing to turn over requested materials to state comptroller Thomas DiNapoli

.

An article by timesunion.com states that some of the information will include the one item NYRA most wanted to avoid disclosing, the salaries of its main officers, reported to be more than $400,000 each for president Charles Hayward, chief operating officer Hal Handel, and chief attorney Patrick Kehoe.

NYRA, meanwhile, is proposing that it take over bankrupt New York City OTB and its 1,381 employees. Hayward made that announcement last Friday at a legislative hearing in Albany. He said details would be announced this week or next.

At the same hearing, NYCOTB president Sandy Frucher said he wants the legislature to set fees OTB pays tracks at a “fair market value;” that OTB will cut its work force in half; and that he plans to cut OTB parlors from 55 to 20 or so, and place as many as 1,300 betting kiosks in bars, restaurants, bodegas and other locations in New York’s five boroughs.

He called the OTB parlors “much too expensive. They are a disaster.”

Legislators immediately took shots at the kiosks, saying they would encourage juvenile betting.
