Zig Zag Zips In Qualifier
Capping his 2020 campaign by rising to the top of the Woodbine Mohawk Park condition sheet and winning in the Preferred Trot, Zig Zag hit the track on Monday morning (Feb. 22) for a small card of qualifiers at the Campbellville oval.
Going to post in the second of three qualifiers, Zig Zag strolled to the lead and never looked back. The five-year-old gelding by Royalty For Life trotted fractions of :29.2, 1:00 and 1:31 before opening a wide lead into the stretch to finish a 1:59.3 mile 10-and-one-quarter lengths in front of Hope So. Zig Zag, driven by Sylvain Filion, competes for trainer Benoit Baillargeon and co-owners Claude Hamel, Richard Thompson and Santo Vena.
Mohawk veteran Machal Jordan also qualified in the Monday session. Driver Scott Young sent the 12-year-old Mach Three gelding to sit second through an opening clip of :28.4 and :58.4 before circling the Kenneth Switzer trainee to the top. From there, Machal Jordan paced to three-quarters in 1:29.1 and expanded his margin to seven-and-a-half lengths when pacing a :27.4 final quarter to the end of a 1:57 mile. Machal Jordan, with over $500,000 earned, competes for Kenneth Switzer and Randy Switzer.
