Spill At WFR, Samurai Seelster Euthanized

The final race on Monday’s 12-dash program at Western Fair Raceway was marred by a two-horse accident which occurred going into the final turn

Samurai Seelster, in rein to Ross Battin, took a bad step while in the midst of making a three-wide move and suffered a catastrophic injury. New Cam and driver Nick Steward, who were right behind Samurai Seelster at the time, collided with Samurai Seelster and fell.

Western Fair Raceway’s Assistant Raceway Manager Brett Revington told Trot Insider Samurai Seelster broke his leg above the knee, and the severity of the injury resulted in the pacer being euthanized by the ORC vet.

New Cam was treated for cuts and bruises by the vet, as well. Ross Battin and Nick Steward walked off under their own power and escaped injury.

Western Fair Raceway and Standardbred Canada would like to offer condolences the to connections of Samurai Seelster.
