Mohawk Concludes 2020 Season
The lights dimmed on the 2020 harness racing season in Ontario shortly after State Of Mind and driver Sylvain Filion rebuffed a challenge from Lainie Hanover to capture the Wednesday night (Dec. 23) finale at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
For Filion, the win in the nightcap put a bow on a 245-win season at Mohawk, good for top honours in the driving colony at the Campbellville, Ont., facility. Bob McClure eked out second by virtue of 208 wins, just two over Doug McNair's 206.
Despite being shut out through six starters on the 12-race card, perennial training powerhouse Richard Moreau closed out the calendar year with 156 wins at Mohawk, 36 more than runner-up Carmen Auciello.
Racing is slated to return to Woodbine Mohawk Park in January, pending provincial approval. Canada's premier harness racing venue will offer racing four nights a week — Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday — before adding Tuesdays from June through September.
