Big Test For Screen Test At Red Shores
After being bested in his last three starts by the now-absent The Rev, Screen Test will still have to overcome an outside draw in Saturday afternoon's (Dec. 19) $2,700 Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 10-dash Saturday presentation starts up at 12:30 p.m. AST, with the Preferred Pace hitting the track in race nine.
Corey MacPherson will steer Screen Test in the top event for trainer Ron Gass and owner Kickin Horse Stable from the grandstand side of the starting gate. The five-year-old son of Vertical Horizon was second in this class three weeks straight as he could not get the best of Atlantic champion The Rev. With that top foe out of the picture, the onus is on Screen Test to stick his nose out at the finish, but he will have to overcome post eight to get there.
Legendary Ron is the second choice on the morning line from post five, sporting a two-race win streak for driver Myles Heffernan Sr. and owner Doug Matheson. Revenant, who starts from post seven for the duo of trainer Gass and driver Adam Merner, is the third choice.
Peter MacPhee with the Post Time Picks puts Screen Test on top:
“Screen Test has put together an excellent season and gets to avoid the bearcats today,” MacPhee said. “This is a good group and he’ll have to be on his game, but we predict Corey works out a trip and they land on the line first.”
Race seven is the Fillies and Mares Open Pace, which goes for a $2,900 pot.
Woodmere Skyroller defeated this group last time out, but now is shouldered with post eight for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson. David Dowling remains in the driver’s seat of the filly, whose $87,076 is seasonal earnings are the most money ever earned in a season strictly on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada. Dreamfair Zenfire is top choice from post six for trainer-driver Marc Campbell, while Back In The Game returns from competition in Ontario to land in the Clifford Murphy stable with Ken Murphy in the seat from post five.
Race six is the $2,400 Open Trot, with Freddie coming back to action in post six for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable. Other top entries are Windmeredontuworry (Heffernan) and Glider Man (Dowling).
The city track received permission from the Chief Public Health office to host the program with a 50-person maximum cohort in the grandstand. Reservations will be required for the Top of the Park and Turf’s Bar & Grill in order to follow capacity restrictions.
