Blue Ivy Rolls In Meadows Open
Blue Ivy powered to the lead from Post 5 had little trouble controlling the mile as she captured Tuesday’s $17,900 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
After shrugging off the early challengers, Blue Ivy had plenty in reserve to thwart the late bid of the pocket-sitting Sports Flix, downing her by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.3. Brooklyn Lilacs was a ground-saving third.
Bill Bercury trains Blue Ivy, a four-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous-All Blue who now boasts a career bankroll of $281,310, for Renee Bercury.
Elsewhere on Tuesday’s card, Just Fly Beyond provided the tote board fireworks when she scored at 178-1 for Brian Zendt, trainer Tom Svrcek and owner Janet Collins. The 5-year-old mare trotter returned $359.20 for a $2 win ticket, a combined $473.60 for $2 win, place and show tickets, and topped a $6,856 exactor.
Tony Hall collected three wins on the 13-race card.
The Super-Hi-5 jackpot that had been fueled by carryovers was taken down Tuesday, returning a healthy $18,260.62 for the single winning ticket. Live harness racing at The Meadows continues Wednesday when the 13-race program features two carryovers: $1,844.77 in the Early Pick 4 (Race 4), $1,957.79 in the Pick 5 (Race 8).
