Brave World and Buttermilk Hanover found their way to victory lane in their respective Preferred assignments Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and they both did so in come-from-behind fashion.

Brave World, who was sent off as the even-money choice in the $8,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3, turned a two-hole trip into a half-length score in his assignment.

Brett MacDonald tracked Chocolate Swirl through fractions of :26.4, :56.2 and 1:25.4 with Brave World before popping out and stepping home in :30.3 to defeat that foe in 1:56.3. Maximus Power came on late to finish third.

Kevin McMaster trains the six-year-old son of Royal Mattjesty-Fit N Bad for Thestable Brave World of Guelph, Ont. The victory was his fourth of the season and the 26th of his career. The $4,250 payday lifted the pacer’s lifetime earnings to $324,497.

Buttermilk Hanover didn’t have the luxury of a two-hole trip, but it didn’t stop her from digging down deep and posting a convincing victory.

Travis Henry had her parked throughout the mile, which was carved out by race favourite Saulsbrook Jessie. That mare sliced out splits of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.2, but she couldn’t seal the deal. Buttermilk Hanover vaulted off cover going to the three-quarter pole and after making the three-wide move she kicked home in :29.3 en route to winning by 1-1/4 lengths over Saulsbrook Jessie in 1:57.2. The Girls Of Image was third.

Sent off at odds of 4-1, the seven-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover-Bet Me Hanover improved her 2020 record to 5-3-3 from 19 starts with the win. Melissa Lamoureux trains the 28-time winner for 8113564 Canada Ltd and Jeff Boyd. The classy campaigner has banked $359,385 to date.
