Jamieson’s Total Jets To 787
In his quest to make the Canadian single-season win tally truly unbeatable, 33-year-old driver Jody Jamieson racked up another five victories at Flamboro Downs this past weekend, then added two more at Woodbine on Monday
night, December 28, bringing his 2009 total to 787.
On December 10, 2009, Jamieson launched himself into the record books by shattering Mark MacDonald’s 2006 milestone of 739 Canadian wins in a single season. He piloted Wild Heart to a gate-to-wire victory at Flamboro Downs.
Jamieson appears to be sitting out the last two cards of 2009 at Flamboro Downs and Georgian Downs, as well as the New Year’s Eve afternoon card at Woodbine, so 787 will likely be the number for drivers to beat from 2010 onwards.
The third-generation horseman and O’Brien Award winner as Canada’s driver of the year has also easily captured the North American single-season win title with a total of 796, eclipsing runner-up Jason Bartlett of Goshen, New York by 76 wins as of December 29.
