Lady Neigh Neigh Nabs Century Feature
Driver Dave Kelly claimed control with Lady Neigh Neigh and kept all challengers at bay to win the $9,000 featured pace at Century Mile on Sunday (Dec. 6).
The four-year-old Bettors Delight mare led the field by the quarter in :27.1 with Chase The Ace sitting in the pocket. Past a :56.2 half, Maid In Alberta angled first over from fifth and marched gradually towards the front nearing three-quarters in 1:25. However the tempo quickened into the stretch and Maid In Alberta gave way, leaving Lady Neigh Neigh in command to a length victory over Chase The Ace in a 1:53.1 mile with Probert rallying for third and Rockin With Lou settling for fourth.
Co-owned by trainer Chris Lancaster with Christopher Lambie, Lady Neigh Neigh won her eighth race from 17 starts this season and her 20th from 39 overall, earning $209,933. She paid $6.70 to win.
Horse put in a big effort in the Sunday opener, lowering the track record he set at Century Mile by more than a second. The three-year-old colt by Vertical Horizon led through fractions of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.4 before expanding his lead to nine-and-a-half lengths and stopping the clock in 1:52.2, beating his previous track record of 1:53.4. Driver Nate Sobey trains and co-owns the $3.30 winner with Paul Davies.
