Cusdmagicdragon Wires Fraser Foes
After winning two of her last three races against the top distaff pacers in British Columbia, Cusdmagicdragon ($2.70) took on mixed company in Wednesday's (Dec. 2) $8,100 Open Pace at Fraser Downs — and she won again.
Scott Knight sent the five-year-old Custard The Dragon mare to the early lead from post two, and they controlled a :28 first quarter before facing a stern first-over challenge from Paperback Thriller (Allan Molloy) with a circuit to go. Cusdmagicdragon held her ground through middle splits of :56 and 1:24, put Paperback Thriller away on the final turn, and began to edge clear of pocket rival Sell A Bit N (William Tainsh) off the corner for home.
Cusdmagicdragon edged away steadily to amass 2-1/4 lengths of clearance at the winning post and take a new seasonal mark of 1:53.1. Intrigued Again (Tony Kerwood) lifted late to narrowly collar Sell A Bit N for second.
Trainer Kelly Hoerdt co-owns 28-time winner Cusdmagicdragon with breeders Blair and Erna Corbeil.
The featured win kicked off a training hat trick for Hoerdt, who teamed up with Knight to also win with Thinkingofyoubabe ($2,50, 1:55.2) and Evermor Legacy ($2.20, 1:58) on the eight-race card.
