Million-Dollar Handle Tuesday At Yonkers

More than $1 million was wagered on the Tuesday night (Dec. 1) card at MGM Yonkers.

This marked the first time the track surpassed the million-dollar threshold since before the pandemic closure. On the last Tuesday before the COVID-19 shut down March 3, nearly $1.1 million was wagered on Yonkers races.

“We had so much momentum in late February and early March,” said Director of Racing Alex Dadoyan. “Five of our last eight cards before we had to shut down saw more than $900k in wagering. And then the world turned upside down.”

Yonkers was forced to close from early March to mid June.

“Everything lined up right tonight. The first of the month is always huge and MGM Northfield having to cancel due to snow really gave us the spotlight.”

The competitive racing produced an $8,750 carryover in the Pick-5 wager for Thursday’s card. The 50-cent Pick-5 covers Races 5 through 9 and will have a $20,000 guaranteed pool on Thursday. First race is 7:12 p.m. (EST)
