MacDonald Wins Five At Rideau
John MacDonald, who sits comfortably atop Rideau Carleton Raceway’s drivers standings for 2009, added five more wins to his totals during Saturday’s 15-race
Boxing Day program.
MacDonald cashed in with 14-1 Super Shot, a three-year-old Shotgun Scott gelding who broke his maiden in 2:02 over a sloppy track in the opener for trainer Jamie Johnston. The resident of Russell, Ontario then enjoyed the spotlight for three consecutive front-end scores starting in the seventh race; The Panductor (2:02) notched her third straight win and first for trainer Gary McDonald, Celebrity Godiva (2:08.2) scored for Sebastien Giroux and Mr Congeniality (2:05.3) for Serge Otis. MacDonald completed his five-bagger with the Gary McDonald-trained Pollards Brook (2:04) in the 12th race.
MacDonald is currently in the midst of a career-best season having won 409 times with purse earnings totaling $1.9 million.
He has recorded 378 of his wins at Rideau, 138 more than Guy Gagnon, who sits second in the track's drivers standings. The runner-up captured four of the afternoon’s races with a pair of his own pupils and a pair for Gerard Demers.
