Summer Charm Charges At The Meadows
Hammered down to 1-5, Summer Charm justified the support with a front-end victory—her third straight—in Tuesday’s $17,900 Filly & Mare Open Handicap at The Meadows. It was one of six wins for Tony Hall—including three for trainer Scott Betts—on the 13-race card.
Summer Charm scored in 1:52, holding off a serious late challenge from Diamondtequilashot that fell a half-length short. Newsday was a ground-saving third.
Betts trains Summer Charm, a four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Lover Of Art who now boasts career earnings of $369,100, for Tim Betts, Nick Catalano, Keith Pippi and Brookside Stables.
Tuesday’s much-anticipated Super Hi-5, with its six-figure carryover and mandatory payout, generated a pool exceeding $470,000. When Entranced won at 18-1 and 70-1 bomb Wingnut Dinger finished fourth, a rich payoff was assured. Indeed, multiple winners each collected $30,692.02.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Wednesday (Nov. 25), first post 12:45 p.m. (EST).
