Five In A Row For Intended Royalty
Nova Scotia's hottest pacer just keeps heating up week after week. In Sunday afternoon's (Nov. 22) $2,000 pacing feature at Truro Raceway, Randy and Edward Copley's Intended Royalty ($3.20) extended his winning streak to five — and he delivered an absolute drubbing to his five rivals in doing so.
The nine-year-old No Pan Intended gelding and driver Redmond Doucet pushed from post 5 to clear pole-sitting Ashestodiamonds (Darren Crowe) a furlong in before yielding to 6-5 second choice Woodmere Ideal Art (Robert Laffin) through a spritely :27.3 first quarter. Intended Royalty maintained his pocket seat through a :56.1 half, but vacated it as the pace began to slow nearing three-quarters in 1:27. On the final turn, Intended Royalty wrested command from Woodmere Ideal Art, and then demonstrated his superiority in the final furlong — drawing 4-1/2 lengths clear of his foes at the end of a 1:55.1 mile. Woodmere Ideal Art did hold second despite giving way, and Rusty Riley (Paul Langille) rallied up the open stretch to narrowly claim third.
Intended Royalty has won 13 of his 21 races this season for trainer Randy Copley, and has amassed 48 victories in his career.
