New Stallion, New Opportunity In PEI

The announcement of a new stallion standing in Prince Edward Island for 2021 comes with the creation of a fractional ownership group for broodmares.

A new initiative to encourage ownership of Standardbred broodmares on P.E.I. coincides with the arrival of Flameproof Hanover, one of the best pedigreed stallions ever to come to the Maritimes.

Flameproof Hanover is a stakes winner from a family of millionaires, sub-1:50 speed, and Breeders Crown, Little Brown Jug, and other major stakes winners. By top pacing sire Captaintreacherous, p.3,1.47.1 ($3,153.140), Flameproof Hanover is from a stakes-winning daughter of the great mare Galleria p.3,1.49.4 ($1,814,455) a Breeders Crown winner and the dam of 2020 Breeders Crown winner Sandbetweenmytoes p.3,1.48.3f ($516,532). He's also a three-quarter brother to Little Brown Jug winner Filibuster Hanover 1.48.1f ($1,919,803) and to Frozen Hanover, who sold in the 2020 Black Book sale for $325,000, and hails from the immediate family of seven sub-1:50 winners including Traceur Hanover p.3,1.49.2 ($1,094,519).

According to his website, Flameproof Hanover will stand in PEI in 2021 "with a book restricted to the best mares in the Maritimes." Foals will be eligible to Atlantic Sires, Maritime Breeders and Breeders Crown. A stud fee of $1,500 live foal has been established, or $1,000 refundable with booking by January 1, 2021

The Flameproof Breeders Club has been established, in similar fashion to TheStable.ca, as a collective for fractional ownership of racehorses, to encourage individuals and groups to become involved in the Standardbred breeding industry as broodmare owners. According to club manager Norman Hall, the group has recently added Movie Star Laag -- the sister to the dam of Wiggle It Jiggleit -- to its broodmare band and will "have several others shortly."

Hall serves as club manager, joined on his team by Blair Campbell (stallion manager), Earl Watts (broodmare Manager), Arnold Hagen and Ed James.
