Rideau Preferreds To Ace Bi, Vegas Rocks

A pair of $9,200 Preferred events topped the 10-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (Nov. 15).

Ace Bi ground first over to a 1:59.1 victory in the Preferred Trot. The four-year-old Donato Hanover gelding sat fourth to a :28.2 quarter before trainer-driver Pierre Bovay edged his charge off the pegs. Past a 1:00.1 half, Ace Bi advanced towards tempo-setter Seeyou Men and cleared command by three-quarters in 1:29.3 before powering away from his competition. Ace Bi strolled to the finish to stop the clock in 1:59.1, one-and-a-half lengths better than Lestenpercent rallying for second with LMC Mass Gem taking third.

Owned by Marc Camirand, Ace Bi won his seventh race from 18 starts this season and his 11th from 34 overall, earning $56,887. He paid $6.20 to win.

Vegas Rocks also rolled first over when scoring a 1:56 victory in the Preferred Pace. Driver Stephane Brosseau floated the eight-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding into fifth heading to a :27.4 opening quarter, but angled the Mandy Archer trainee off the pylons passing a :57.2 half. Up the backside Vegas Rocks made gains on pacesetter Day Delight, looming closer to the leader by three-quarters in 1:25.4 and drawing nearer into the turn. With the backfield winding up for the stretch drive, Vegas Rocks slid to a narrow lead as 2-1 favourite National Debt shot for the lead late but only managed to squeak second in a photo with Racemup taking third and Day Delight finishing fourth.

Owned by Rachel Archer, Dean Larkin and Jody Sanderson, Vegas Rocks won his sixth race from 18 starts this season and his 35th from 150 overall, earning $400,790. He paid $6.40 to win.
