Preferred Double Bill At Flamboro
A set of Preferred tilts went postward Tuesday evening at Flamboro Downs, with Bastiano rolling to an easy win in the $11,500 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for trotters and Manhattan Night rallying to a narrow triumph in the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for pacers.
Bastiano went to the front and didn’t look back en route to posting a four-length score in his assignment.
Dave Boughton rolled the Shane Arsenault trainee to the top from Post 5 and after chopping out panels of :29, :59.3 and 1:28.1 the gelding kicked home in :28.4 to win over even-money favourite Ole Jack Magic in 1:57. Cheatalotpov took home the show dough.
Bernie Bahr of Limehouse, Ont. owns the six-year-old son of Angus Hall-Victoire L A. It was the third win from the last four outings for the 19-time winner who now boasts a bankroll that stands at $123,988.
Manhattan Night was treated to a covered up trip in her assignment, and the homebred took full advantage of the opportunity given to her.
Sent off at odds of 2-1, Manhattan Night got away sixth for driver Travis Henry, who watched Outlaw Imahotvixen knife her way through first-half fractions of :27.3 and :57.4. Buttermilk Hanover came first-over and worked her way to the top in the backstretch. She took the field past the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3, but she couldn’t fend off the hard-driving Manhattan Night who tore off cover and stepped home in :29 to win by a head over Bettor Trix N in 1:55. Buttermilk Hanover settled for third prize.
Anita Ouellette trains the four-year-old daughter of Dali-Manhattan Killean for Luc Ouellette Incorporated and Alan Alber. It was the second straight triumph for the 12-time winner who lifted her lifetime earnings to $123,749 with the win.
