The Rev Redeems At Summerside
Fresh off of a two-hole ride, The Rev exploded in the stretch to win the featured Bob Dewar Memorial Stakes on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 8) on the final card of the season at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Woodmere Ideal Art (driven by Norris Rogers) cut out the splits, but The Rev came up the passing lane in the $2,900 Preferred Pace to win in 1:54.4, which was part of a four-win day for driver Gilles Barrieau. Barrieau trains the Atlantic champion for Jeffrey Skinner of Nova Scotia. Stablemate Rose Run Quest (Corey MacPherson) was second while Woodmere Ideal Art hung on for third.
Barrieau also won in catch drives with Howmac Magic (1:58.3) for trainer Paul Biggar, Windemerenoharmdone (1:59) for Travis Wilkie, and Easy Like Sunday (2:05.3) in a maiden-breaking score from the Robert Phillips barn.
Corey MacPherson crowned himself the leading driver of the season with Win No. 32 of the year at the Summerside Raceway, which came with Souverain in 1:58.3 for owner-trainer Phil Sizer. Brady Sweet won the Young Guns Driving Series aboard Badlands Giovanna. The event was sponsored by the PEISHRIA.
Positive Art and Myles Heffernan Sr. won the final dash of the year in a 1:58.3 off of a first-over journey. The veteran horse is owned and trained by Bing Easter of O’Leary.
Marc Campbell was the leading trainer of the meet with 13 wins on the year.
