'Willy' Wire To Wire At Western Fair
Willyorwonthe ($9.40) made easy work of his seven rivals in Wednesday's (Nov. 4) trotting feature at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
The seven-year-old Angus Hall gelding seized early command in the $8,500 Preferred 3, sprinting past the pole-sitting Lady Caterina to control a :28.3 first quarter. Once in control, Daryl Thiessen throttled Willyorwonthe down to coast through middle splits of :59.4 and 1:28.3 while under no pressure at all.
On the far turn, Willyorwonthe accelerated clear and left Lady Caterina (Colin Kelly) hopelessly in his wake, 2-3/4 lengths in arrears at the end of a 1:58.4 mile. Scene A Magician (Greg Dustin) flattened off a gradual first-over bid but held third.
Kyle Bossence trains 39-time winner Willyorwonthe for William Brown and Phil Maguire.
Marc St. Louis Jr. led all drivers five wins on the 11-race program, most notably a 1:56.3 score with Colonel Schneider Jr.'s Sugar Shadow ($9.80) in the sub-featured $8,300 distaff conditioned pace.
