Preferred Double Bill In London
A set of Preferred 3 events highlighted Monday’s 11-race card at The Raceway at Western Fair District, with one coming through for the favourite players and one for the longshot lovers.
Significance was a popular winner in the $9,400 class for filly and mare pacers. Colin Kelly carved out fractions of :28, :57.3 and 1:26.4 before cruising home to win the 1-1/16 affair in 2:04 over Sporty Tori and Charmbo Brie.
Lacey McCabe trains the four-year-old daughter of Mach Three-All Night Long for Glenview Livestock Ltd and Cheryl Cherry. Sent off as the 7-5 favourite in the eight-horse affair, Significance won for the first time this season and lit the lamp for the 14th time in her career. She pushed her overall cash stash over $110,000 with the victory.
Moonwriter took home top honours in the event for horse and gelding pacers, and he did so as a 17-1 upsetter for driver Drew Neill.
The Colin Johnson trainee got away next to last before latching onto cover on the way to the half. Walter Mitty supplied the field with fractions of :28.2 and :58.4 before Oh K Man worked his to the lead at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.1. Moonwriter followed that foe’s cover, and then used a :29-second final frame to win by a half-length margin over Oh K Man in 1:57.3. Oceanview Magnum was third.
The eight-year-old son of Sportswriter-Carolina Moon won for the fourth time this season for owner Debbie Element of Rockwood, Ont. The 23-time winner is just shy of $380,000 in lifetime earnings.
