Dead Heat In Truro Feature
A field of six faced the starter for the featured $2,000 Winners Over Pace at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon (Nov.1), and when the dust settled not even the photo finish camera could separate a pair of Standardbreds on the wire.
Toxicity and driver Ernie Laffin started from the rail and cut all of the fractions (:27.1, :57, 1:26.2) before facing pressure in the final quarter. They fought hard to the wire, but the Craig Carey-driven mare Lady N Paradise surely had pace to make things interesting late.
Lady N Paradise had raced fifth through the opening half before moving into the second-over position. Carey had tipped his mare three deep as the field straightened for home. The duo gained ground three-wide in the lane and got up to force a dead-heat for the win position. Harry G, who had raced first-up for pilot Paul Langille, finished just a quarter length back in third.
Toxicity, who is a six-year-old Art Major gelding, races for trainer Carrie Saunders and co-owner Kurt Harper. Lady N Paradise is owned by trainer David Carey, driver Craig Carey, and Ronald Garland.
