'Team St. Louis' Dominates In London
The husband and wife duo of driver Marc St. Louis Jr. and trainer Danielle St. Louis put on clinics in their respective categories Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
They joined forces to score with Needlecrest (1:58.4), Grits N Gravy (2:05.1) and Kahlua Morning (2:00.1) before Marc tacked on a trio of catch-driving wins with Mall Peen Hammer (2:00), Style Snapshot (1:56.1) and Crankys Boy (1:56.3).
Heavy favourites prevailed in the $8,500 Preferred 3 events including Manhattan Night in the Fillies & Mares class. Travis Henry rolled the Anita Ouellette trainee through fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:27 before using a closing quarter clocked in :29 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Casino Classic in 1:56. Significance was third.
The four-year-old daughter of Dali-Manhattan Killean, who was sent off at odds of 2-5, won for the fifth time this season and for the 12th time in her career for owners Luc Ouellette Incorporated and Alan Albert. The homebred has banked $123,749 to date.
Pembrook Legacy N survived a first-over journey in the Horses & Geldings event and drew clear to win by more than three lengths for trainer/driver Lorne House.
The seven-year-old son of Bettors Delight watched Validus Deo lead through first-half fractions of :28 and :57.4 before brushing first over and grabbing the lead while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:25.2. A :30-second closing quarter was more than enough for the gelding to defeat Validus Deo in 1:55.2. Taking home third prize was Brocks Fortune.
Sent off as the 4-5 choice, the gelding improved this year’s record to 4-2-3 from 13 starts with the winning effort. The seven-time winner has just shy of $40,000 in lifetime earnings.
