Mrs Suhwiggins Strolls At Century
Even-money favourite Mrs Suhwiggins swept to the front and maintained command to the finish of the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Century Downs on Saturday (Oct. 24).
Driver Brandon Campbell cleared control with the four-year-old Custard The Dragon mare to a :29 opening quarter as Stash The Cookies pressed but failed to take over the lead. Stash The Cookies raced parked to a :58 half and began to tire to three-quarters in 1:27.3, forcing second-over Lady Neigh Neigh and third-over Maid In Alberta wide. Meanwhile Mrs Suhwiggins held a two-length advantage on pocket-sitter Destiny Hanover into the stretch, coasting to the beam and stopping the clock in 1:57.4. Destiny Hanover held second while Bearcat Josi closed up the pylons for third.
Trained by Michael Campbell for owner J J J Stables, Mrs Suhwiggins won her seventh race from 20 starts this season and her 16th from 44 overall, earning $258,884. She paid $4.00 to win.
