Go With Her Evens The Score
Go With Her had never been able to defeat both divisional titans at the same time but the trotting princess reached up to unseat the boys and win the Maritime Breeders Final Saturday afternoon (Oct. 24) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
With a hard first-over move heading to three-quarters, Go With Her and driver Brodie MacPhee cleared to the lead on the front stepping Tequila Tuesday (Myles Heffernan Sr.) and kicked to a one-and-a-half length victory in 1:59.4 in the $11,000 Maritime Breeders three-year-old trot final. Favoured colt Mabou Ridge (Clare MacDonald) was second while Terrible Ted (Dale Spence) was third. Kuri White trains Go With Her for owner East Coast Captains of Cornwall.
A Little Go Go scored an upset in the $11,500 Maritime Breeders two-year-old trot final in 2:01.4 as part of a four-win day for the Marc Campbell stable. Campbell was at the lines of his trainee for owner Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore, N.S. Mr Finlay Ridge (MacDonald) was second while Dusty Lane Milo (Adam Merner) completed the triactor.
Another of Campbell’s wins was in the $6,000 Cecil Ladner Memorial as Time To Dance won his eighth straight for owners Brent Campbell of Charlottetown and Matt McDonald of Ontario.
Streakazana also hit the wire on top in her $4,000 Maritime Breeders three-year-old pacing filly elimination in 1:56.4 for trainer-driver Campbell. Red Dirt Star (Gilles Barrieau) was second with Gotta Love Cabot (MacDonald) third and Ubettimagoodone (Kenny Arsenault) finishing fourth to punch her ticket to the final.
Adam Merner drove the other Campbell-trained winner in the opener with Sports Bliss in a 1:59.1 maiden-breaking score.
Watch Me Dance (Jason Hughes) overcame a heavily favoured Woodmere Skyroller (David Dowling) in the other $4,000 filly elimination in 1:56.1. Bellafornow (MacDonald) and Saulsbrook Ocean (Spence) also made the final.
Woodmere Rollnpop and trainer-driver MacDonald hit the wire first in a $4,000 Maritime Breeders three-year-old pacing colt elimination in a 1:56.3 over The Big Chase (Corey MacPherson), Windemere Ryan (Merner) and Theycallmedude (Ken Murphy).
Mr Kelly prevailed in a head decision in the other $4,000 colt elimination in 1:56.4 for driver Adam Merner with Little Manny (Stephen Trites) finishing second, Windemere Albert (Campbell) third and JJ Patrick (MacPherson) advancing to next Saturday’s final.
Merner also won with Whims Drop Off as part of a driving triple in a 1:58.1 mile for trainer Ken Wilkie. Ken Murphy notched a driving double while Brett Clow won a division of the Young Guns series with Bold N Bad in 2:01.2. The series is presented by the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association.
