'Jack' Is Back; Five For St. Louis
Despite being out of action since June 10, Nebraska Jack ($8.70) found his way back to the winner's enclosure in Wednesday's (Oct. 21) featured event at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, an $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot.
The seven-year-old Cantab Hall gelding and driver Marc St. Louis Jr. cleared 4-5 favourite Scene A Magician (Greg Dustin) easily on the first turn and controlled a moderate :30 first quarter. As Nebraska Jack rated a slowing tempo through the remainder of the first circuit, Xtatic Hanover (Travis Henry) ascended out of fifth to press middle splits of 1:00.3 and 1:29.2.
Nebraska Jack shrugged off the sustained, mild challenge of Xtatic Hanover with a furlong to go, and was driven out to complete his 1:59.4 win 1-1/4 lengths in front of pocket rival Scene A Magician. Willyorwonthe (Daniel Thiessen) circled three-wide off the home turn to take third.

St. Louis piloted five winners on the 12-race card, including four in partnership with trainer Danielle St. Louis.
On the undercard, Brittany Kennedy's Lass Shot ($2.40) shaved more than a second off her lifetime mark with a dominant 2:00 score in the second preliminary of the Autumn Series for Ontario-sired trotting fillies.
The daughter of Archangel called all the shots in the $8,500 event, leading the overflow field of nine through splits of :29.2, :59.4 and 1:29.1 before steadily distancing herself from the field on the home turn. In the end, she won by a commanding 6-1/2 lengths in line to Scott Young while Cool Princess advanced first-over and duelled down Heid for runner-up honours.
