So Much More Repeats In Mares Preferred
So Much More doubled up in the $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace, downing the fired up Lit De Rose in another edition of the Friday night special at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Sent postward as the 2-1 second choice after coming up a neck short last week, Lit De Rose and driver Louis-Phillipe Roy left guns blazing out from post eight, racing three-wide in the first turn through a sizzling :25.3 opening quarter. They made front after the quarter-pole, clearing inside speedster Parisian Blue Chip (Doug McNair) on the way to the half in :53.4.
Born A Dragon (Travis Cullen) then went on the attack from fourth during the third panel while So Much More tracked the cover after getting away back in sixth early on from her outside post nine assignment. The former matched strides with the front-runner as the mares passed three-quarters in 1:23.3, but the latter swept by off cover down the stretch to score in 1:51.1 for driver James MacDonald. Parisian Blue Chip re-rallied to come within three-quarters of a length of the winner while Kendall Seelster (Jody Jamieson) closed from the backfield to snatch third prize from Lit De Rose.
Notching the eighth Preferred victory of her four-year-old campaign, So Much More paid $5.80 to win as the 9-5 favourite. She now sports a seasonal record reading 9-4-4 in 24 starts.
The 28-time career winner, who is approaching the $500,000 mark in purse earnings, is owned by trainer Don Beatson along with partners Kenneth Beatson and Cole England.
