Du Wah Diddy Looks Good And Looks Fine
Du Wah Diddy has made more than 200 starts in his racing career, but today marked the first time he’d ever stepped foot on Western Fair Raceway’s half-mile oval
. And he made the most of it.
With Doug McNair calling the shots behind the Sue Gangell trainee, Du Wah Diddy drove away from rivals in deep stretch en route to posting a two-length score in 1:59. McNair got away fourth in the early stages of the mile before asking the eight-year-old son of Ball And Chain to go into attack mode.
The veteran had made it up to second as the field passed by the mid-way point, and by the time the three-quarter pole rolled around he was in charge of the tempo. With the ball in his court, Du Wah Diddy snapped home in :29.4 to defeat race favourite Beach Boy Toy and Pacific Prince in the $10,000 Preferred-2 Pace.
John Devito of Whitestone, NY holds the papers on the son of the nation’s first sub-1:50 winner. His 2009 record improved to 4-2-4 in 28 assignments, while his overall bankroll rose to $334,206.
