Better Be In Love Wants The Spotlight
Better Be In Love narrowly lost the duel last week, but she will search for those extra inches at the wire this Thursday (Oct. 15) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Thursday card has a 6 p.m. opening post time, and the $2,300 pacing feature will line up for Race 11.
After having led for essentially the entire mile, Better Be In Love was defeated by a neck last week in a hard-fought battle with Temagami Seelster. The two mares will hook up again on Thursday. Jason Hughes will drive Better Be In Love from Post 3 for owner-trainer Brendon Mullen of Mount Stewart, while Temagami Seelster will start from Post 5 with Brodie MacPhee at the controls for trainer Tom Weatherbie. Southwind Ion has dropped out of the Open class and will start from Post 6, and conditioner Jennifer Doyle has elected to call on David Dowling to perform the driving duties.
Post 2 will be filled by the Western Ideal mare The Time To Win, who has been undefeated in two outings from the Bo Ford stable. Marc Campbell is scheduled to drive The Time To Win. Peter MacPhee of the 'Post Time Picks' has placed Better Be In Love in the top spot.
“Better Be In Love almost got there last week just getting nailed late by Temagami Seelster. We think Jason will want to boss it and if he does set up shop on the front end could get the gold in here.”
Also in the field are Tell Me Why (to be driven by Corey MacPherson) and Collective Wisdom (Gilles Barrieau). The top trotters will hook up in the Open Trot (Race 8), which has seen Mile Hill Willie favoured early. MacPhee will steer Mile Hill Willie from Post 4 for trainer Paul Morrison, while the horse he co-holds the track record with, Freddie, will start from Post 1 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell. Thursday will mark Freddie’s first start from Post 1 since July of 2019.
