Lestenpercent ($3.40) and Avatar J ($7.00) proved best in the $9,200 Not Listed Preferred Handicap events for their respective gaits on Sunday night (Oct. 11) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
In the week's top trotting event, Lestenpercent gradually worked to command through the first three furlongs before marching on to his fifth top-level win in his last six starts.
The five-year-old Justice Hall gelding and driver Rodney LaFramboise gelding worked clear of Mr Contestant (Richard Simard) well beyond a :27.2 first quarter, opened up a two-length lead through a :56.2 half, and accelerated up the far side to evade a sustained challenge from Ace Bi (Stephane Brosseau). Lestenpercent maintained two lengths of clearance over Ace Bi at the end of a 1:55 mile, while Hat Trick Marleau (Pierre Bovay) finished third.
Paul LaFramboise owns and trains Lestenpercent, who now has won nine times in 17 tries this season and owns 17 career victories.
After being just collared on an earned lead in last week's top pace, Avatar J converted from the pocket in 1:53.2 on this occasion, doing so in just his third start back in Ontario after spending the summer racing in the Maritimes.
While in line to Tyler Moore, the six-year-old son of American Ideal secured the pocket behind 17-1 pacesetter Stonebridge Beach (Stephane Pouliot) and tracked behind fractions of :26.4, :55.3 and 1:23.4 before charging up the open stretch to win by a neck. National Debt (Pascal Berube) lifted widest of all off cover to take second; Vanilla Malted (Clarke Steacy) rallied for third.

The Brian Jerome Memorial Claiming Series began on Sunday, and three $8,000 divisions served as supporting events on the 10-race program. Thundering Jim ($3.20, Guy Gagnon, 1:54), Darcee N ($11.20, Marie Claude Auger) and Mach Messier ($14.90, Tyler Moore, 1:55.3) proved best in their respective splits.
Guy Gagnon landed a training hat trick, winning with Mcjagersonthemove ($10.00, 1:54) and Big Petes Style ($4.90, 1:54.4) in addition to his Jerome preliminary win with Thundering Jim.
