Sicario Scores At Flamboro
Holiday Road gelding Sicario capitalized off a pocket trip to take the $11,500 Preferred 2 Trot at Flamboro Downs on Tuesday (Oct. 6).
The five-year-old secured the cat-bird seat while Power And Grace led the field to the first quarter in :28. Derf Hanover mounted a first-over bid from fifth moving to a :57.3 half and drew into contention of the lad by three-quarters in 1:27.1. However Derf Hanover began to falter into the final turn, giving Sicario an opportunity to pop pocket moving for the stretch drive. From there the Richard Moreau trainee opened one-and-three-quarter lengths to win in 1:56.4 over Esquire taking second. Power And Grace faded to third.
Owned by Pamela and John Hehn, Sicario won his fifth race from 21 starts this season and his 22nd from 86 overall, earning $199,217. Scott Coulter steered the $7.30 winner.
Driver Brett MacDonald moved Saulsbrook Jessie to the lead and never looked back to win the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace.
The four-year-old Big Jim mare cleared command from post 5 with Larjon Legacy landing in the pocket to a :28 first quarter. Buttermilk Hanover angled first over from fourth by a :57 half and advanced towards the pacesetter moving to three-quarters in 1:25.2 but tired into the final turn. Larjon Legacy gave the closest pursuit to Saulsbrook Jessie through the stretch as the Ronald MacDonald trainee hit the finish one-and-three-quarter lengths in front. I Wish You Well closed for third another six lengths behind.
Owned by Edward Gorc, Saulsbrook Jessie won her fifth race from 14 starts this season and her 10th from 39 overall, earning $92,604. She paid $11.40 to win.
