Points North Pounces In Preferred
Driver Jonathan Drury landed Points North on the lead, yielded for the pocket then darted after the lead in the stretch to win the $36,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Oct. 3).
Points North pushed for the top from post 7 with Rockme Rollme firing from post 9. By a :26.2 first quarter, Points North settled for the pocket as Rockme Rollme brushed to the front. Rockme Rollme continued unchallenged to the half in :55 and remained under no pressure to three-quarters in 1:23.2 until Drury tipped Points North off the pegs. Through the stretch Points North surged after Rockme Rollme and slid to the lead, extending to a one-length victory in 1:51 with Rockme Rollme settling for second and 6-5 favourite Best In Show rallying from third over for third.
A five-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere, Points North won his seventh race from 26 starts this season and his 16th from 58 overall, earning $354,514. Carmen Auciello conditions the $18.90 winner for owners Kelly Waxman and Loredana Cirillo.
