Capteur De Reve Triumphs In Preferred
Capteur De Reve, one of the only horses to have won four Quebec Championships, showed his winning form again Friday (October 2) at the Hippodrome 3R with an easy victory in the $7,500 Preferred Trot.
Racing over a 'good' track with a two second allowance due to rain, the seventh race feature started off as expected with favourite Keepall (Pascal Berube) going out and taking the early lead. He led the field past the opening quarter-mile in :29.2 and then the half-mile in 1:00.1 before Bucketlist Hanover (Jocelyn Gendron) came first-over with Capteur De Reve and driver Stephane Gendron following the outside flow second-over.
Before the three-quarters in 1:29.3, Gendron took Capteur De Reve three-wide and they were able to clear Bucketlist Hanover and come after Keepall.
As they started down the stretch, Capteur De Reve proved to be too much for Keepall as he went on to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 2:00.1. Keepall was second with Precieuse CC (Claude Beausoleil) third after sitting the two-hole trip.
The win was the fourth this year from 12 starts for Capteur De Reve. The six-year-old gelded son of Muscle Mass is trained by Maxime Velaye for owner-breeder Ecurie Provoquante of Mirabel, Que. He paid $6.30 to win.
Stephane Brosseau had a driving triple during the 10-race program and Carl Duguay earned a training double. Among their victories, they combined with seven-year-old trotting mare Eau Naturelle ($5.40) to take the $5,000 Preferred 3 in 2:00.3 by a quarter-length over Sir Chopin.
Live racing resumes at H3R on Sunday featuring the $33,800 Lucien Bombardier Memorial Pace, co-sponsored by Standardbred Canada, for two-year-old fillies. Bombardier was a pioneer of harness racing in not only Quebec, but all of Canada. Game Of Shadows is the 1-2 morning line favourite in the seventh race after competing in Grand Circuit and Ontario Sires Stakes Gold events at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The daughter of Shadow Play is co-owned by Louis-Philippe Roy, who will be driving in most of the 11 races on Sunday. First race post time is set for 1 p.m. For a free race program, visit hippodrome3r.ca.
