Fraser Meet Kicks Off Wednesday
After more than six months on the sidelines, Fraser Downs returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 30) to begin its 2020 Fall-Winter meet.
First race post time for the nine-race card is 5:00 p.m. PST / 8:00 p.m. EST and Fraser returns on a night where the Canadian harness racing spotlight shines directly on the east coast.
"I see we are the only track racing today in Canada, hopefully that’s a good thing for us," Nigel Holmes, Executive Director of Harness Racing B.C. told Trot Insider. "We have a competitive with hungry owners, trainers and drivers as we haven’t raced since March 2020.
"Stables continue to arrive daily with many of the Alberta trainers/drivers that were here earlier in the year in the process of returning to stable at Fraser Downs for our Fall-Winter meet."
Like many tracks across North America, Fraser will start its Fall-Winter without fans on-site but Holmes noted that the track is allowing one owner per horse in the backstretch to watch their horses race.
The meet will be highlighted by the BC Breeders Stakes for two- and three-year-olds, with the elimination legs starting Wednesday, October 14 and concluding with the lucrative $75,000 finals on Wednesday, November 4 (two-year-olds) and Friday, November 6 (three-year-olds).
Racing continues this week on Friday (October 2) at 8:00 p.m. (PST) and every Wednesday and Friday through Friday, December 18 with a special Boxing Day card scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
