'U Gotta Be Leaf' In A Good Cause
It has been announced that Toronto Maple Leaf fans can now own a share of a rookie racehorse along with some of the Leafs' most revered alumni. In addition, it has been announced that the McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation is going to benefit from the endeavour.
U Gotta Be Leaf is the newest addition to TheStable.ca and is co-owned by NHL alumni Doug Gilmour, Rick Vaive and Shayne Corson. The trio are among 800 clients from 12 countries who #ownalittleloveitalot. Gilmour and Vaive have been clients since 2018. This is Corson’s first foray into racehorse ownership.
U Gotta Be Leaf, who was originally named 'Kisstmrwgoodbye,' is an Ohio-bred yearling colt by Uncle Peter. He is currently training at the Tomiko Training Centre, which is located near Hamilton, Ont., and is being pointed to race his rookie season in Ohio in the summer of 2021. Members of TheStable.ca are always welcome to visit their horses at Tomiko Training Centre.
Mathew Milne, a client of TheStable.ca and a dedicated fundraising advocate for McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ont., coordinated the purchase of the colt, which is currently 53 per cent sold.
“A number of the current shareholders have agreed to donate their net earnings of this colt to McMaster Children's Hospital Foundation,” said Milne. “Many of our children (my own included) have received care at McMaster Children's Hospital. Seeing the happiness my kids derive from visiting the barns and being around the horses, it serves as a reminder of how grateful I am to those doctors and nurses at McMaster.
“Every little bit counts, and I'm proud to continue to contribute to their fundraising needs as much as I can."
