Napolitano Brothers Dominate At Pocono
George Napolitano, Jr. and his brother Anthony, the two winningest drivers at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, captured nine of the fourteen races on the Monday afternoon card – and still they had to share the spotlight with a trainer who boosted her career win total to 32.
Brianne Good, a 36-year-old trainer from Sayre PA and a former participant in the Racing Under Saddle series, is campaigning her stock at Pocono now that Tioga Downs, near her home, has closed for the season, and Good sent out three winners on the Monday card, using a different driver aboard each winner. Tyler Buter drove Big Mach to a $49.80 victory in race five; George Napolitano was behind favoured $4.80 winner BJ Lorado in the very next race; and then Anthony Napolitano brought home $51.00 bomber Evs Girl in the thirteenth contest.
Good, who has had her license for less than three years and who has never started more than 112 horses in a season, had once before had a multiple win card – and it was ironically the night she got her first and second career training victories, at The Meadowlands on February 9, 2018.
As far as the $51 victory of Evs Girl, it was Anthony Napolitano’s third victory in the first four races of today’s Rainbow Pick 5 bet – George had the other – and the $51.00 payoff reduced to 22 the number of ‘live’ tickets vying to be the unique winning ducat and to collect the $238,000 pool. But the last race saw Anthony win again with 2-1 shot Mighty Mr Sharkey over 3-5 favourite Rock Lights in the stretch battle, resulting in multiple winners and a carryover of over $232,000 for Tuesday’s Rainbow Pick 5 pool.
Anthony’s four wins in the Rainbow bet were his ‘only’ winners of the day, while George reported home first five times, giving him fourteen wins in the three racing days so far this week. But doubtless it will be Brianne Good who will remember the day for a long time thereafter.
