Mantario Takes On Summerside’s Finest
After closing hard against the richest Maritime-bred of all time last week, Mantario will try to get it all in the Sunday afternoon feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway. Red Shores, The Prince County Horsemen’s Club and Standardbred Canada will also salute the grooms part of National Caretaker Appreciation weekend.
A total of 12 dashes are set for Sunday afternoon presentation at the Prince County oval, with the $2,700 top class lining up in the eleventh race. Mantario has been pegged as the favourite from the outside post six, with David Dowling slated to drive the Jennifer Doyle trainee for owners Doyle and Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. The Sportswriter pacer closed hard to finish second to The Rev in a 1:53.4 mile last week, pacing his own mile in 1:54. The Governor’s Plate finalist will have some sturdy competition on his way to the winner’s circle on Sunday.
Heart And Soul will leave from post four as he looks to add to his 10 top-three finishes from 13 seasonal outings, with Brodie MacPhee in the bike for trainer George Riley. Soccer Hanover will hold down post five with Ken Murphy in the driver’s seat while the lone mare in the field, Misty Memory N, has rail control with Jason Hughes at the lines.
The Backstretch Beat in Sunday’s program pegs Mantario for the top spot. “Mantario came out of the clouds to just miss in 1:54 his first start for conditioner Doyle. He is sure to get a more aggressive steer this time and we like his chances to get it all.”
Completing the field are Adkins Hanover (Ambyr Campbell) and Hunger Pangs (Taylor Doyle).
Dylans Future has been installed as the morning line favourite in the Bob MacInnis memorial in Race 5. Norris Rogers will handle the two-year-old colt for owner-trainer Frank Banks of Summerside, PEI.
Pictonian Storm is favoured in the eighth race $2,250 back-up class with Brodie MacPhee driving the 37-time winner. Wade Sorrie trains the son of Western Paradise for owner Tammy Collings of Hazel Brook. Other top entrants include Power Of A Cruiser (Norris Rogers) and Howmac Magic (Hughes).
