Euchred Returns To Prince County

Euchred made the trek from Cape Breton last week and toyed with his rivals and will now take on the preferred level Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The 12-dash Sunday card has a 1:00 p.m. start time.

Corey MacPherson will steer Euchred from post four in the $2,700 feature, slated as Race 11. Walter Walker trains the 59-time winner for owner Kayla Habicht-Walker of Inverness, N.S. The eight-year-old son of Shadow Play dropped into the back-up class last week and easily made two completions of the Prince County oval in 1:54.4. Heart And Soul has been razor-sharp all season and gets the services of driver Jason Hughes for trainer George Riley from post five. The champion son of Western Paradise has nine top-three finishes to his credit from 12 starts in 2020. Gold Cup & Saucer trial starter Best To Hurst will leave from post three with David Dowling at the controls of the Jonah Moase trainee.

The Backstretch Beat in Sunday’s card has Euchred pegged as the one to beat. “When this guy gets loose on the lead, watch out. If he can cross over easy enough this one is all over.”

Completing the featured field are Hunger Pangs (Dale Spence), Power Of A Cruiser (Adam Merner) and Soccer Hanover (Brodie MacPhee).

The afternoon back-up class has Brandons Glory favoured for the lion’s share of the $2,300 purse. Spence will sit in the racebike for trainer MacKenzie MacInnis and owner Cindy Gunn of Saint John, N.B. The 18-time winning son of Brandons Cowboy drops out of the top class and draws post five on Sunday afternoon. Other top entries are Howmac Magic (Hughes) and Pictonian Storm (MacPhee).
