Hey Livvy Keeps Tight At Mohawk
Hey Livvy notched the biggest win of her career in the $220,000 Armbro Flight at Woodbine Mohawk Park in late August. Now, ten days removed from the sharp score, the mare returned to the Campbellville, Ont. oval, but this time in a qualifying capacity, as Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted an eight-race session on Tuesday morning (Sept. 8).
Hey Livvy lined up in Post 2 for the six-horse affair, and driver Trevor Henry opted for a conservative approach early. Henry and the Jeff Gillis trainee were positioned third in the opening frame, as multiple stakes winner Dont Letem (who was driven by Yannick Gingras) went to the front and clicked off the quarter in :27.2.
Dont Letem trotted on the lead through the middle half and flashed the opening half (:56) and three quarters (1:24.2) while Only For Justice (Chris Christoforou) kept tabs from second. Henry and Hey Livvy lurked in striking distance from third before making their move in the lane.
As the field entered the stretch, Henry asked Hey Livvy for some trot, and the bay began to inch closer to her rival as the wire neared. Hey Livvy had enough late (:26.3 final quarter) to just get up on Dont Letem and post a nose victory in 1:51.4. Only For Justice finished further back in third.
(Please note that Hey Livvy's race starts at roughly the one-hour-and-14-minute mark.)
Hey Livvy is in the midst of her best season to date, as the five-year-old daughter of Donato Hanover has won six of her 13 starts this year and has also notched a pair of second-place finishes. Hey Livvy is owned by Blue Chip Bloodstock Inc., Ellen Ott, and Trevor S Henry, and has earned $211,440 in purses thus far in 2020.
Other notable wins during the session included efforts from Down Under invader Hail Christian N (1:54.2), and Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winners Rose Run Victoria (1:53.4) and Dashing Muscle (1:59.2).
