Return Winners Head Québec Series
A total of six return winners headline the final preliminary round of the Breeders Trophy Series for three-year-old pacers on Sunday (Sept. 6) at Hippodrome 3R.
After this weekend's races, the top eight point earners in the series will be eligible for the $65,000 finals. There will be both a colt and filly division on Sept. 27, Super Sunday at H3R.
The lone colt division has a purse of $10,000 features three return winners.
The morning line favourite is Mickeymaksomespeed, who starts from post one for driver Steeven Genois. The homebred son of Mickey Hanover seeks to sweep the series after winning the opening two rounds for breeder-owner-trainer Michel Allard.
Mickeymaksomespeed sports seven wins in eight starts this year for Allard. He led from start to finish in both rounds of the series, last time out scorching the H3R oval in 1:55. He took a record of 1:53.3 earlier this season at Rideau Carleton Raceway. Mickeymaksomespeed, who did not race as a two-year-old, seems to be making up for it this season.
The entry of Retour Au Jeu (post 4) and Eclat De Rire (post 9) will be formidable foes for Mickeymaksomespeed.
Retour Au Jeu will be driven by Jonathan Lachance. He also wired the field in his Breeders Trophy elimination last time out in 1:55.4. The son of Hes Watching sports four wins in eight starts this year.
Eclat De Rire has Stephane Gendron in the sulky and he was second against Mickeymaksomespeed. The prior week, he took his lifetime mark at H3R in 1:56.1.
The third return winner in the field is HP I Got Toplay from the far outside in post eight. A son of Shadow Play, HP I Got Toplay closed well on the outside to win going away in 1:56.2 last week at H3R. David Pilon gets the drive for trainer Francis Richard and owner-breeders Claude Hamel and Guy Desautels.
The fillies go in two $7,500 divisions.
The first division features Acaena De Chakrika with driver Stephan Brosseau from post three. This daughter of Sunshine Beach has won both series prelims so far, winning from both on and off the pace, the fastest mile in 1:56.4. She is trained by Dany Fontaine for owner-breeder Diane Lepine.
The second division of the series has three major contenders and the morning line favourite has yet to win in the early rounds.
Zar E IP goes from post four for driver Pascal Berube, and has been second in both starts in the series against Acaena De Chakrika. The Up The Credit filly sports four wins in eight starts, the fastest a 1:56 clocking at Rideau Carleton. Pierre Leclerc trains and owns Zar E IP, whom he bred Gina Bragagnole.
The return winners in the field are Streakzana (post 6) and Godiva Lovely Lady (post 7). Streakzana won with ease last week in 1:58 and will be driven by Stephane Brosseau. Godiva Lovely Lady and Steeven Genois team up again after winning last week in 1:58.2.
