YS Do It Right Romps At 3R
The Québec Jockey Club hosted the second round of the Future Stars Series at Hippodrome 3R on Sunday (Aug. 30). The biggest romp of the day came in the first division of the Future Stars Series for colts as YS Do It Right, the overwhelming 1-9 favourite, did not disappoint his fans.
Leaving from post three, driver Stephane Brosseau sent YS Do It Right to the lead, and the race was pretty much over with. YS Do It Right cut fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.2, increasing his lead until he strolled home 10-1/2 lengths in front in 1:56.4, the fastest of the four divisions.
The pocket-sitting Colonel Bayama (Sylvain Filion) was second with Moonbeam Godro (Pascal Berube) third.
It was the maiden victory for YS Do It Right after four lifetime starts. The colt by Bettors Delight is bred and owned by Yves Sarrazin, trained by Francis Richard, and paid just $2.10 to win.
In the second colt division, a determined Sylvain Filion sent Cadillac Bayama three-wide to grab the lead at the opening quarter mile in :28.3. From there, it was not much of a contest, as Cadillac Bayama cut easy fractions and breezed home a one length winner in 1:59.1. The Light Speed (Simon Delisle) was second with Godro Outofhisway (Pierre-Luc Roy) third.
A winner in three of his four lifetime starts, the son of Sunshine Beach is trained and owned by Yves Filion, and was bred by Filion and his Bayama Farms. Cadillac Bayama paid $2.10 to win.
Sylvain Filion made his trip back to H3R even more enjoyable as he scored a driving triple, also winning the second division of the Future Stars Series for the pacing fillies.
Leaving from post two, Celia Bayama was the overwhelming 1-5 favourite and wired the field with ease, cutting fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:29.1 before closing with a burst of speed to win by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:57.4.
It was a lifetime mark for the daughter of Bettors Delight and her second win in five starts. She is owned, bred and trained by Yves Filion for Bayama Farms. She paid $2.40 to win.
The first division of the Future Stars Series for fillies was one of the most contentious races on the program.
Favourite YS Downonthebeach and Sylvain Filion went right to the early lead with Shanghaibluebeach (Roy) sitting the pocket trip to the opening quarter in :28.1.
Before the half in :59, Brosseau came first-over with CL Sportsextreme and battled head and head with YS Downonthebeach until midway in the backstretch, when Brosseau dropped CL Sportsextreme into the two-hole by the three-quarters in 1:27. After a short breather, Brosseau asked CL Sportsextreme to go first-over again.
With YS Downonthebeach still in control of the race, CL Sportsextreme wore her down in the stretch and then held off a late charge by Platine Alpha (Carol Voyer) to win by a long neck in 1:58. YS Downonthebeach was third.
It was the third win in five lifetime starts for CL Sportsextreme. The Sportswriter filly is trained by Dany Fontaine for the Leblanc Stable and paid $5.80 to win.
Sylvain Filion led all drivers with a triple; trainers Yves Filion and Francis Richard each had doubles.
