Simple Kinda Man Rolls At Red Shores
On top at every call, there was no stopping Simple Kinda Man’s advance to the winner’s circle as the post time favourite in Saturday night’s (Aug. 29) $3,000 Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Jason Hughes, who won three races on the card, cruised the five-year-old son of Sportswriter to the front from post 5 and laid down splits of 27.4, 57.2 and 1:26.3. The Chris MacKay trainee then fended off a late advance from eventual second-place finisher Freddy Bear (Marc Campbell) in 1:54.3 with JJ Powerball (Gilles Barrieau) rallying for third. D Racing Stable shares ownership of Gold Cup and Saucer finalist Simple Kinda Man with Donald MacRae.
Hughes’ other victories came with Tempo Seelster, stopping the clock in 1:56.1 for the Gary Poulton stable; and with Persist Blue Chip, who earned a second consecutive win with a 1:57.1 mile for Saul Lanigan.
Cowboy Logic ran his win streak to five with a 1:57.1 mile in the 10th race. Steven Shepherd was at the lines for trainer Harold Shepherd, who co-owns with Angus Birt, Maurice McCabe and Gerard Ellsworth.
Trainer Tom Weatherbie had a double from his Charlottetown outfit, as Jenna Grace (Mark Bradley) scored a maiden-breaking win in 2:01.4 and Temagami Seelster (Kenny Arsenault) remained undefeated on Prince Edward Island with a 1:56.4 clocking.
