WEG Makes Changes To Condition Sheet

With the intent on rejuvenating some potential interest in claiming horses, Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) has made some changes to its Condition Sheet beginning with the entry draw for Thursday, December 10

.

On the newest Condition Sheet, owners and trainers will notice optional claiming prices added onto various conditioned classes from non-winners of $8,000 in the last six starts all the way up to non-winners of $35,000 over the same number of starts. Optional claiming prices will scale as high as $150,000 for the non-winners of $35,000 class.

“We’ve had discussions with the leadership of COSA, and believe this is a worthwhile exercise to try and stimulate some claiming activity,” said Scott McKelvie, WEG’s Standardbred Racing Secretary. “It’s the perfect time of year to try and see if there’s interest out there for owners to both price and claim horses.”

On the topic of making changes to race conditions I am the only handicapper who is totally frustrated with trying to calculate earnings for horses entered in races with condition of n/w of$$$ last 10 and buying a racing program that gives you past performances for the horses on only the last 6 starts.
Is it not the racing industry's responsibility to provide punters with all info to match race conditions which they set?

This move may help as it does broaden the range of choices of horses eligible to be claimed. The benefit may be negated by the current rule pertaining to the necessary jump in class of a claimed horse. In the case where the claimed horse has not won at the claiming level, this rule does not help an animal forced too race against superior animals, thus losing his confidence. It is also unfair to an owner forced to carry a non-competetive horse for 15 days with little prospect of a return on investment.

But do you still have to jump the horse up in class off the claim???
If so. where is this going to stimulate the activity?
