Preferred Repeat For Brodys Scrapper
Brodys Scrapper had little problem dismantling Preferred 3 pacers one week ago at Grand River Raceway, and the veteran made a round trip to victory lane at that oval thanks to a Monday evening triumph in the $11,500 Preferred 2 for horse and gelding pacers.
Brodys Scrapper got away fourth for driver Travis Cullen while St Lads Thriller powered to the lead and whacked out fractions of :27.1, :56 and 1:24.1. St Lads Thriller came up empty late, though, and it opened the door for the rallying Brodys Scrapper. Cullen rallied his charge home in :28.2 to register the win by a neck over Pro Beach in 1:53.1. Highland Tartan was third.
Trainer Rachel Andrew, who shares ownership with Cullen on the nine-year-old son of Mach Three-Witness To Fame, watched the pacer improve his 2020 record to 4-2-2 from 18 starts with the win. The 32-time winner has banked over $260,000 to date.
Jack Of Clubs was a front-stepping winner in the $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers. Paul MacKenzie got away second before rolling the gelding to the top. He led the group through fractions of :56.4 and 1:25.2 before using a :29.2 kicker to win by a head over even-money favourite Paparazzi Hanover in 1:54.4. Duc Dorleans came on late to finish third.
Garry MacDonald of Dundas, Ont. owns and trains the six-year-old son of World Of Rocknroll-CC Kloe. It was the pacer’s fifth win of the season and the 21st of his career. He banked in excess of $116,000 to date.
Kris Me Goodnight avoided a late mix-up to win the Preferred 3 for trotters in 1:58 for driver Travis Cullen and trainer Jodie Cullen. The five-year-old daughter of Armbro Barrister-Hypnotic Kris carved out panels of :26.4, :56.4 and 1:26.2 before things got a little crazy. When the dust settled, Kris Me Goodnight used a :31.3 closing quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over Herbs Journey in 1:58. Taking home third prize was Played By Swan.
Travis Cullen and Rachel Andrew share ownership on the mare who is a three-time winner this season and a 12-time winner to date. The victory pushed her lifetime earnings over $100,000.
