Harrington Feature To Slick Tony
George Leager's Slick Tony notched his 39th career win Monday at Harrington Raceway with a 1:51.2 win in the featured $18,000 Open Pace.
Slick Tony, the even-money favourite, assumed control early from post two for driver Tony Morgan and marched through fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:24.3 while Jacks Legend N mounted a first-over attack. The latter drew within a length at the top of the stretch but Slick Tony dug in gamely to hold him off and prevail in 1:51.2. Jacks Legend N was second with Rollwithpapajoe third.
It was the second straight win for Slick Tony, who has banked over $700,000 in his career. Owned and trained by his breeder Leager, Slick Tony has recorded five wins this year. He paid $4 to win.
The night started out very chalky, in addition to the feature, favourites prevailed in the first three races as Random Hanover ($3.00, Russell Foster), Montys Play ($3, Jason Lynch) and Scuola Hanover ($3.40, Art Stafford, Jr.) all lived up to their backing from the betting public. Foster had three wins on the card.
Also on the undercard, in the $13,500 sub-featured pace for mares, Apple Bottom Jeans ($4, Corey Callahan) was a 1:52.3 winner. Trained by Dylan Davis for owners Howard Taylor, Robert Cooper Stables, and Ed Gold, the Mr Apples mare is approaching $1 million in career earnings.
