Bet On Becky Tightens At Mohawk
Eleven races filled Woodbine Mohawk Park's qualifying docket Tuesday morning (August 11), six of which were devoted to two-year-olds. One of the season's flashiest juveniles was in action during the session, as Bet On Becky returned to the Campbellville, Ont. course for a bit of a tightener.
The Anthony Beaton trainee kicked off the session in Race 1, that featured a strong wind pushing the horses down the backside, which then hit them like a wall when they raced for home in the stretch.
Bet On Becky didn't appear to mind the blustery conditions all that much, as she lined up in Post 5 in the eight-horse tilt and battled for the lead into the first turn.
Roger Mayotte subbed in for Jody Jamieson behind Bet On Becky on Tuesday, and the duo raced second past the :28.4 quarter pole and through the :58 opening half.
Mayotte called on Bet On Becky on the turn, and the speedy Bettors Delight lass responded. The bay was overland on the lead when she clicked off the three-quarters clock in 1:27.1.
Bet On Becky proceeded to open up lengths in the final quarter. When all was said and done, Bet On Becky had expanded her lead to four and three-quarter lengths when she hit the wire in 1:55.1 courtesy of a 28-second final quarter.

Bet On Becky has been the talk of Ontario's two-year-old pacing filly ranks to this point in the season. The $70,000 yearling purchase is three for three thus far in her career and has banked $97,633. She put the division on notice early last month at Mohawk when she shot to a 1:50.4 win in Ontario Sires Stakes action.
Bet On Becky is owned by Larry Menary (of Branchton, Ont.), Kenneth Ewen (Georgetown, Ont.), Alan Alber (Thornhill, Ont.) and Michael Guerriero (Brampton, Ont.).
The other two-year-old winners during the session were Publicity Seeker (2:01.3), Father Corby (2:00), Bulldog Hanover (1:56), Country Boy Tough (1:59), and Imasharpdealer (2:02.3).
Last year's Meadowlands Pace winner, Best In Show, also qualified during the session, as the new recruit to the Bob McIntosh stable notched a dominant, 1:51.4 win. Top class trotting mare Hey Livvy tuned up with a 1:57.1 score, while North America Cup eligible Warrawee Vital revved it up during his qualifier on Tuesday, as the Captaintreacherous colt paced to a solid win in 1:51.2.
