KJ Leo Roars Late At Tioga
KJ Leo and Jim Taggart Jr. came roaring in the stretch to capture the $6,500 featured pace at Tioga Downs on Sunday (Aug. 9).
Catcha Lefty A (Mike Merton) went straight to the front, but Harry Terror (Wally Hennessey) went by and took the lead just before hitting the first quarter in :27.3. Harry Terror maintained control through middle fractions of :56.1 and 1:23.3, while KJ Leo patiently stalked from fourth off the turn for home.
In the stretch, KJ Leo found an opening and came flying three-wide to beat Harry Terror in a lifetime best of 1:52.1. Catcha Lefty A finished third.
KJ Leo, a four-year-old gelding by Art Major, is trained by Gary Messenger for owners Phillip Shapiro, Brenda Messenger and Scott Woogen. It was his second win this season and the 11th of his career. He paid $11.80 to win.
Wally Hennessey drove three winners on the card and leads all drivers with 63 wins on the meet.
Live racing returns to Tioga Downs on Saturday (Aug. 15), starting at 3 p.m.
